Road Warrior International MODS0010/MODS0011 Modem Saver Plus (OEM) The Modem Saver Plus's unique (patented) line testing circuitry prevents costly modem damage & burnout by testing modem/telephone lines for high and unsafe analog and digital currents. Modem savers have been around awhile. The purpose is to test the phone line to make sure it is analog and not digital. You plug the Modem Saver into the phone line and press a button. A green light means it is an analog line. A red light means too much juice is coming through and the line is probably digital. Digital phone lines, like the ones used in hotels and most corporate offices, can put out more power than analog lines. That extra power can damage a modem, especially PC Card modems. In addition to checking the line for too much current, the International Modem Saver Plus detects the pulse noises that afflict several European phone systems. The pulses will not harm your modem, but can cause you to lose your connection. The Plus part of the name comes from the fact that you leave the unit plugged into the phone line and then plug your modem line into the base of the unit. The Modem Saver Plus then acts as a line filter/conditioner to reduce the noise on the line and neutralize power surges that occur in some phone systems. A side benefit is that it works just as well on North American phone systems. Overview Notebook modems communicate with analog signals. Currently, many newer telecommunication installations in hotels and offices use digital signals. These conflicting circumstances create two problems. First, your modem may simply refuse to work with a digital phone signal. Second, the higher power of digital signals may damage or destroy your modem.
