Technical description: The rotating gear simulator is designed to simulate the operating state for model FS01x speed sensors and its predecessors, e.g. GI5, GID5 and GI6. 2.1 Technical features The unit is distinguished by the following features: a) Plain and compact construction b) Easy to use c) Portable unit for use anywhere d) Battery-powered unit 2.2 Construction See Figure 1 and Figure 2 The unit consists essentially of: 1) Housing (a) 2) Housing cover (b) 3) Button (c) 4) Electric motor (d) 5) Rotating gear (e) 6) Battery (f) The housing (a) contains all the working parts of the unit. The housing cover (b) serves to cover up and protect the working parts. The parts used to fasten the speed sensor being tested are located on the upper side of the housing cover (b). The spacing be-tween the speed sensor and the rotating gear (e) can be adjusted by means of the fasteners. The side of the housing cover (b) has a hole (g) through which the spacing can be checked. 2.3 Working principle See Figure 1 and Figure 2 Pressing the button (c) starts up the electric motor (d). The spur-type gear (e) is made to rotate. This movement generates an alternating magnetic field which is detected by the speed sensor being tested and converted into a square-wave signal. 3 Operation / control 3.1 Adjusting the speed sensor mounting The adjusting nuts must be set to the correct spacing to suit the type of speed sensor housing. The spacing between the rotating gear (e) and the speed sensor head must be around 0.9±0.5mm. The feeler gauges named are needed for checking the spacing. The check can be made through the hole (g). The 0.4mm thick feeler gauge must always fit between rotating gear (e) and the speed sensor head. The 1.5mm thick feeler gauge must never fit there. 3.2 Operation 1) The angle is set to suit the type of housing of the speed sensor being tested. 2) The air gap between rotating gear (e) and the speed sensor head is set. 3) The speed sensor being tested must be mounted on the rotating gear simulator. 4) A signal testing device to be supplied by the customer must be fastened to the speed sensor. 5) Press button (c) and start the test.
