Rounded Brazed Diamond Router Bit 1/2" Shank Medium For routing stone with wood router 40/50 grit diamond, best on marble and softer granite Diameter of bit: 23mm or 11/12" 1/2" Shank to be used on conventional routers. Use wet or dry. Water or other cooling agent is recommended for longer life of the bit. In the past diamond products came 3 ways - metal bonded, resin bonded or electroplated. Of these the fastest was always electroplated since they have 100% diamond exposure. The problem with the electroplated is that it is adhered with pure nickel and an electrical charge - virtually "painted" on to the product using electricity. Since nickel is a low grade metal you can only use very small piece of diamond, or they will fall off of the tool. if you use any other metal besides nickel the melting point is too high and will damage the diamonds up to the point of turning them back to carbon (remember that the diamond used on these products is synthetic diamond, not natural diamond). Recently it was discovered that inside a vacuum the melting point of metal is lowered. This allows makers to braze diamonds to tooling in a vacuum producing faster cutting, longer lasting prioducts. The math works like this: Brazed products will cut 3-5 times faster than metal bonded products, at a comparable price and comparable life of the tool. These save time which makes you more money.
