These are single sheets of Rubylith extracted from a new OEM bulk pack. Rest assured, we will appropriately handle and re-package your purchase to deliver in pristine condition. Rubylith is normally used in graphic arts and screen-printing industries. Not a lot of folk know that Rubylith is a dual-layer product. You can separate the "Ruby" (the red layer) from the "Lith" (a crystal-clear polyester backing). The Ruby is very fragile (it was meant to be thrown away during stripping); but it can act as a "static cling" film if handled carefully. eBay buyers have put it to dozens of uses. Here's a selection: Astronomy: Rubylith will produce very consistent results when used to create a night-safe red light out of normal white lights, unlike most "quick-fix" materials such as red tape, paint, and thin cellophane. It holds it's shape well when cut and is easy to work with.   • Turn your glaring white lights into night-friendly red with Rubylith. It is durable and easy to cut to any shape you desire.  • Great for turning white flashlights into red, making your computer screen star-party friendly, or covering the dome lights in your car or RV in a snap.  Night Driving: Member kbx7 says "Very nice to subdue our minivan's back-up camera screen!" iPod & Touch Screen Uses:  Member jonmuz says "Both the 'untouched' Rubylith and the very thin 'just the Ruby' layer allow for operating of the touchscreen (using finger or stylus). It blocks out quite a bit of light, but I think it'll be perfect in a low light situation. Not sure which is more convenient--the thin Ruby layer has a nice static cling attachment to the iPad, which would be nice for holding device in hand, but I imagine handling the Ruby layer by itself would be a pain. The 'whole' Rubylith just slid nicely into an iPad stand I use, so it's extremely quick to slide in and out. I think you could make quite a nice simple case that you could slide an smartphone or tablet into." Blue-Light Blocking Applications:  The blue part of the light spectrum is considered unhealthy by some folk.  www.lowbluelights.com says: "Controlling blue light entering the eyes can improve wellness, avoid depression, improve control of mood,  and reduce or eliminate longstanding insomnia when controlling light in the time preceding bedtime."  This is especially true for people who work nights, and need to maintain a regular circadian rhythm (an iPad is considered a main culprit for nighttime blue light). Specific spectral data is unavailable, but generally speaking Rubylith passes the red side of the spectrum, and blocks the blue side of the spectrum. It is almost transparent to infrared (useless when working with infrared films), and completely opaque to ultraviolet (perfect for printing plates and electronic circuit design). Darkrooms: Rubylith film is great for use in screen darkrooms. Rubylith blocks out UV rays while still letting natural light through into the room. It can be used to block out windows and light fixtures to insure a light safe environment in your darkroom.  Photography: Unfortunately, Rubylith has a "pebbled" surface. You will not get clear images if you use it as a lens filter. Technical Information: Rubylith is primarily used in the camera and plate-making operations for offset lithography, flexography, gravure, and screen processes where orthochromatic films and plates are used. It is safe for use with camera speed darkroom films as well as indirect gelatin stencil films and diazo, diazo acrylic, or SBQ sensitized stencil films or emulsions.  Rubylith brand masking film is a light-safe knife-cut film coated onto a polyester backing sheet. These films can be cut manually or on a plotter to produce masks for film contacting and plate making and film positives for photographic stencil production.
