Up for auction is a KV-100 digital radiacmeter with multiple probes capability. It is in outstanding cosmetic and fully functional condition. This device is manufactured by Science Applications International Corporation, developed primarily for the U.S. Navy for use on nuclear submarines, ships, and shore facilities. If you are looking at this auction, you know how rare a device this is. Prior to this unit, the last one came available in 2012 and sold for $1250. There are likely no more than 5 of these in non-Government hands. The AN/PDQ-1 Multifunction Radiac is current issue to the Nuclear Navy and have appeared on the market a couple of times, with a purchase price to the DOD of around $4000 each. The AN/PDQ-1 set was also offered for non-military use as the KV-100 (Dept of Homeland Security, etc.) but SAIC's sales never really went anywhere due to a non-Navy cost of over $12,000 per unit. In fact, the reason this unit is available is because it is technically a "civilian" KV-100 surplused from another federal agency. The only difference is the decals on the case. This instrument can be used as a stand-alone device for Gamma only from 0.01 mRAD/hr (10 uRAD/hr) up to 1000 RAD/hr. It is indeed energy compensated as well as "EMP-proof." Not included, but compatible with an array of ancillary probes for all monitoring purposes: Detecting Head (DT)-680 for gamma/beta, DT-685 for beta probe interface, DT-681 for alpha, DT-682 for X-ray, DT-683 for Neutron Indicator, DT-684 for Neutron, DT-686 for Radiography. It is truly one of the most advanced radiological monitoring devices on the market, made almost exclusively for the Government by SAIC. Unlike the Canberra AN/PDR-77 set used by the Army/Marines and the Canberra ADM-300 used by the Air Force - this device is not early 1980s technology with microprocessors that belong in an Apple IIe. It was specifically developed due to the Navy's desire for a better instrument than the other services and the DOE adopted. It has a built-in speaker and headphone capability (either or both can be used at the same time) as well as a backlight that actually works. (Those who have used the Canberra units know what I mean!) It uses 2-D cell batteries and had a flip up handle that collapses for ease of storage or carry. It is possible to set alarms at various dose rates. Auction includes the metal carry case (some scratches to pain of bottom of carry case and one small dent as noted), Radiacmeter itself, operator's manual and calibration report from 2011, and headphones (Fully functional, unfortunately some rather thin plastic that attaches the left earphone popped off, but can be easily fixed if desired.). The Radiacmeter itself is in excellent condition, some paint scratching to the four metal "feet" on the bottom as well as a few light scratches to the digital display. Battery compartment is pristine. As many folks know, these newer digital instruments do not drift in their calibration, and rarely need adjustment. It had its cal check in 2011 and was "due" in 2012 but appears to have been stored and then excessed. (Oddly, it was serviced once by a contractor and then by an Army facility). It responds appropriately to check sources. (Similar instruments, CD V-718's, last truly calibrated in 1996 were merely checked yearly at a previous place of employment - in fact the cal tech's didn't even know HOW to adjust them). Please primarily refer to the photos for condition. This would be an excellent unit for emergency, preparedness, or industrial use. I'm sad to see it go, but I have too many Radiacmeters... There is a host of information available on the Internet (Please specifically check out the CDV700CLUB and George Dowell's/K0FF's archives) but unfortunately I can't link to them from here. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have and happy to answer. If you have a Best Offer you think is mutually fair - message me. I will surely consider it and will respond to you either way. I am very invested in you being happy with your purchase. I usually ship within 12-24 hours of your payment.
