The PEM-320 Polarization Extinction Ratio Meter provides accurate, real-time information about the polarization state of light in an optical fiber. It can be used as a general purpose measuring instrument but has been designed, in particular, to enable the accurate and rapid alignment of polarization maintaining fibers to optical components. The rotating polarizer design, coupled with a high sensitivity detector enable the PEM-320 to measure high linear polarization extinction ratios, of up to 40dB, with a 2.5Hz refresh rate. The PEM-320 simultaneously displays values for polarization extinction ratio (PER), optical power and polarization angle. These are the three critical parameters required for the alignment of polarization maintaining fiber to optical components. In addition, the PEM-320 has full support for GPIB and RS-232C communication interfaces together with an analogue data output. These features provide the unit with unrivalled flexibility for integration into automatic measurement and automatic fiber alignment systems. PEM320 Polarization Extinction Ratio Meter The PEM-320 polarization extinction ratio (PER) meter has been designed to enable accurate and rapid alignment of optical components to polarization maintaining fiber. The PEM-320 incorporates a powerful GPIB interface enabling full system integration and production line automation. In addition, to facilitate automatic alignment of diode lasers to optical fibers, an analog power monitor with 1 kHz response time is available. With this addition, both translational and rotational fiber alignment can be controlled automatically. This device is tested in the lab and is fully working and in excellent condition.
