Scienceware 371100002 PTFE Octagon Spinbar Magnetic Stirrer Bar, with Integral Pivot Ring, White, 2" Length, 5/16" Diameter Mixers Octagon magnetic stirring bars with integral pivot ring are the most commonly used shape. Their interrupted profile provides greater surface area and added turbulence when compared to the smooth surface of cylindrical bars. Pivot ring aids in reducing friction and chattering. Coated in white PTFE. Dimensions: 50.8 x 8mm (2 x 5/16"). Octagonal shape creates more turbulence and a stronger vortex than a round, cylindrical shape or a polygonal shape Teflon (PTFE) casing is chemically inert, can be used with corrosive chemicals, and helps reduce friction and wear while spinning Built-in pivot ring helps reduce vibration and wear during stirring Internal magnet made from alnico V, an alloy of aluminum, nickel, iron, and cobalt Casing material is FDA approved for use in food, drug, and cosmetic applications
