Iris Retractor – Disposable (Set of 5) DESCRIPTION Disposable Intra Operative Pupil dilators is a vital instrument to reduce surgical time during small pupil phacoemulsification, Retina and Vitreous surgery. These flexible nylon hooks retract the iris with minimal damage to the tissue thereby providing a fast and simple method for temporary pupil enlargement. Set of 5 Sterile IRIS Retractors METHOD OF USE 1. Five stab incisions of 1.0mm to 1.5mm width are made at the limbus approximately 90? apart using Beaver / 1.5? side port SPEEDWAY stab incision blade. The incision sites are selected in such a position that it does not interfere with the surgical incision and maneuvers to follow 2. The silicon rubber lock is slided backwards away from the hook side 3. The hook is inserted into the anterior chamber with the help of a McPherson forceps or suture tying forceps, going beyond the pupil margin 4. The hook is then rotated to engage the IRIS at pupil margin 5. The retractor is pulled towards the limbus till desired dilation of pupil is achieved 6. Holding the retractor in desired position the silicon rubber lock is slided up to the limbus to the limbus to hold the retractor in place during surgery 7. Each of the four hook is placed in position one by one 8. To remove the retractor from the eye just pull the lock backwards, disengage the hook from the IRIS and pull it out using slight force. The hook becomes straight momentarily and comes out of the corneal wound without damaging the cornea. The hook regains its “U” shape immediately after removing from the eye STERILIZATION: It is recommended that the retractors are not used again. However in an event of reuse, they should be cleaned thoroughly and dried IRIS retractors can be sterilized by ETO gas or put in formalin chamber for minimum 24 hours CAUTION: DO NOT AUTOCLAVE MVR KNIFE (For Stab Incision) 1. Used for making the side port entry for phaco, Vitrectomy etc. 2. Makes an Opening of 20G, which can be used to make phaco sied port, A.C.
