Product Description Size: Level 1 The 2010 study of homeowner’s insurance claims conducted by the Insurance Information Institute showed homeowner lightning damage claims exceeded over $1 billion dollars in 2008. Claims could have been avoided had homeowners installed a whole house power surge protective device, like Siemens’ SPD4home. Whole house surge protective devices, or SPDs protect your sensitive electrical equipment by taking the damaging surge current to ground and lowering surge voltages to safe levels. This safeguard action is similar to how a pressure relief valve protects your hot water heater tank. The relief valve sacrificially opens diverting excess water pressure to a nearby drain while allowing a harmless remnant to pass to the hot water heater tank. Over time, SPDs sacrificially protect your home in the same manner. In order to ensure protection is always present, you need to know when the SPD reaches end of life. Siemens takes the guess work out of knowing your SPDs protection status. Every SPD4home includes protection indication assurance, which is advanced monitoring indicators that includes protection status LEDs, an audible alarm and GIM diagnostics. When the SPD4home reaches end of life, a protection status LED will extinguish, the red service light will illuminate and the audible alarm will sound.
