This is new old stock - Never removed from the reel except by me. This 3'' wide material is a factory sealed high heat wrap made from silica glass cloth. Its thickness as a tape is about 3/16" so as a sleeve it would be half of that. Here is an edited paragraph from a relevant website which says it is no longer commercially available: "High-temperature, asbestos-free textiles composed of 96% silica (silicon dioxide) that protects against extreme temperatures, sparks and molten metals. Siltemp® offers protection at continuous temperatures up to 1800°F (982°C). The fabric is corrosion resistant and will decompose at high temperatures (over 2000 deg. F) without generating any smoke or fumes. They are used for welding protection, protective shield barriers, fire curtains, stress relief blankets, cable wrap and high-temperature gaskets." AMETEK used this for aerospace to protect equipment against extreme temperatures and sparks. It is great for lowering custom automotive UNDER-HOOD high temperatures. Works great for use on: HEAT SHIELD FOR CUSTOM EXHAUST and keeping heat away from transmission lines and starters etc. Turbochargers and their downpipes Fuel lines Wrapping Exhaust lines and catalytic converters to cool the passenger compartment. Reducing interior noise. The wrap IS 3-4 times thicker than fiberglass wraps and it is much more workable. The weave is very strong and will not unravel and its ends will not fray even after cutting.
