The Singer 143W3 sewing machine is considered a high speed zig zag and straight stitch machine. This machine does not have reverse, which is generally not a problem once you understand how to lock your stitches without reverse. (Google it) This machine has an almost new feed dog and a new foot. Parts are not hard to get for this machine. They are still being made. The 143W3 can make a wider Zig Zag than the 143W2 machines, up to 5/16" wide. The 143W2 can go up to 3/16 wide. 143W2 machines are not hard to find. 143W3 machines are not as common. Ref: ismacs.net I purchased this machine to do some sail modifications for my boat. I ran a few hundred feet of sail through the machine and it worked fine. I replaced the clutch motor with a DC Servo motor which is very controlled, but it still ran a bit fast. So I removed the existing handwheel and replaced it with a standard V belt pulley. I am including the original Handwheel pulley as well, so you can switch it back easily if you want to go faster. It worked fine. The DC Servo motor has a max speed setting on the motor itself and I have that turned down as well. I have a video of the machine running on Youtube. This machine runs nicely with V92 thread. It can handle V138 thread as well, but that is really overkill for all but very heavy sails. The dacron sailcloth shown in the photos was sewn on this machine. I think there are 6 or 8 layers of sailcloth folded over and sewn off as well. Its a strong machine. I have too many sewing machines and have decided to let this one go. I would like to have this machine picked up but I could ship it if that is what you need. It would have to go on a pallet. I have also have a 143W2 head only, listed on Ebay. However the 143W2 could easily be put on this table. The 143W2 head came out of a tailor shop in Chicago that closed.
