Sodium 1,2-naphthoquinone-4-sulfonate, Folin’s reagent,  97.0+%, 3.0g CAS Number: 521-24-4         Molecular Weight: 260.20 Molecular Formula: C10H5NaO5S IUPAC Name: Sodium 3,4-dioxo-3,4-dihydronaphthalene-1-sulfonate Other Names: 1,2-Naphthoquinone-4-sulfonic acid sodium salt, 3,4-Dihydro-3,4-dioxo-1-naphthalenesulfonic acid sodium salt, Folin’s reagent Folin's reagent or sodium 1,2-naphthoquinone-4-sulfonate is a chemical reagent used to measure levels of amines and amino acids. The reagent produces a bright red color in alkaline solutions and is also fluorescent. This should not be confused with Folin-Ciocalteu reagent, which is a mixture of sodium tungstate and sodium molybdate that is used to detect phenolic compounds. The Sullivan reaction is a chemical test used for detecting the presence of cysteine or cystine in proteins. A red colour appears when a protein with cysteine or cystine is heated with sodium 1,2-naphthoquinone-4-sulfonate and sodium dithionite under alkaline conditions.
