This is a neutron detector sensor assembly removed from a portable neutron and gamma detector used by Nuclear Emergency Search Teams. It is extremely sensitive all solid state detector that uses a Lithium Iodide Scintillation Crystal bonded to a large area PIN photodiode detector with a FET based amplifier. It has been tested with a neutron source and does respond far better than BF3 geiger tubes despite it's small size. It should be used with a discriminator pulse height analyzer since the crystal detector will also pick up gamma rays too, though a simple covering with lead foil will help lower the noise floor. Hook up info will be supplied, runs on 3.3-5V. a 3.7V lithium ion battery will power it nicely. I have the cesium iodide gamma detector and the other guts form the detectors in another listing if you want them. This item is pretty much impossible to find. I have lots of laser and other unique stuff for sale this week
