The letter "C" usually indicates that they are Satin Chrome finish.These were heat treated and tempered, but never received the Satin Chrome finish. They are hardened and tempered, but have a bluish tint and have a shiny (reflective) finish. The letter "E" usually indicates that they have edge grads on the reverse side. These scales DO NOT HAVE EDGE GRADS. REPEAT: THERE ARE NO EDGE GRADS ON THESE SCALES. Please Purchase accordingly. 2 are pictured so that you can see both sides. You are buying 1 (one) 6" long Starrett STEEL FINISH 304SRE-6 SCALE. Steel Finish means that these have a "shiny" finish. A 304SRE scale should have Graduations on the reverse "side" edges. THERE ARE NO EDGE GRADUATIONS ON THESE SCALES. Catalog number reads: No. C304SRE-6 (but not Satin Chrome finish and NO EDGE GRADS) The front edges have "Quick-Reading" 32nd inch and 64th inch graduations. “These scales have 4R grads and have never been used. I bought these directly from Starrett in a very large lot of cosmetic seconds. THE E DESIGNATION REFERS TO EDGE GRADS. THESE DO NOT HAVE EDGE GRADS. These are a bit hard to describe. These are "tinted" blue in color. These were hardened and tempered, but never went through the final stage of giving these a satin chrome finish. These are "blue" from the heat-treating process. These will have STARRETT quality and accuracy. There are scratches, discoloration spots and small areas on the ends that are not blue. They are certainly unusual and are rather interesting looking.
