Proper preventative maintenance is crucial to the longevity any mechanical device. The maintenance schedule on page 40 of the Honda eu2000i owner’s manual list several procedures that need to be performed periodically. Two of the most critical maintenance procedures on the Honda generator, is changing the engine oil and checking the valve clearance after every 100 hours of use. The challenge here is, that there is no hour meter on the eu1000i or eu2000i. Most generators are only in operation an hour here and fifteen minutes there. So, unless you document the times when you start and stop the generator every time you run it, keeping track of the hours of use with any degree of accuracy would be next to impossible without an hour meter.
