This compact device is designed to measure chrominance information from a composite-color video signal. It displays saturation and hue in a polar-plot fashion, with the radius of the polar plot being a function of saturation and peak-to-peak amplitude of the chrominance signal, while the angular displacement relates the hue information to the phase difference between the chrominance data and the reference vector (burst). The 1420 also boasts graticule illumination, which makes it possible to take waveform display photographs with a clear graticule.
