The English countryside, with its hedgerows and native field and garden flowers, served as his  touchstone and is reminiscent in the carpet from the Metropolitan’s collection on which this design is based. “Holland Park” Carpet Designed by William Morris, English, 1834–1896 Wool Turkish (Ghiordes) knot, 16 ft. 11 in. x 13 ft. 1/4 in., late 19th century The Metropolitan Museum of Art Bequest of Frank A.
