The Tucker Vise by Veritas® - Emmert style patternmaker's vise - NEW-in-Box This is a brand new Tucker Vise, made in Canada by Lee Valley Tools under their Veritas® brand name in 2009. The Tucker Vise is a modern redesign (patented in 1992) of classic patternmaker's vises that closely resembles the Emmert Vise and the Oliver No. 1. This one was made in 2009 and features the more durable leather jaw pads instead of the cork pads on the early version. Soft removable caps on the dogs are another addition to the later models. After just 18 years of production, Veritas stopped making The Tucker Vise in 2010 due to "supply and production issues", so they are very rare and new ones like this are almost impossible to find. They still have a limited supply of the Extra Plate/Stanchion Set for mounting the vise in a second location (available from Lee Valley Tools for $79). I kept putting off installing the vise because of my dream to build a specialty clamping and assembly bench, but I've decided to sell this vise and do something simpler and smaller. It is in it's original box, absolutely complete, never used or installed. The vise has been stored for six years and there are a couple of places on it that are not as perfect as the day it was made. The ends of the guide rods have a trace of rust on them and the plating on the integral dogs has turned a slightly uneven gray. One of the small leather pads has a patch of discoloration that appears to be some of the adhesive Veritas used. Take a close look at the photos to see these imperfections. All of these things are the result of normal aging, but could be made perfect if desired. The cardboard box has a stain on top where a container of finishing oil leaked on it. Here is a description of The Tucker Vise taken from the Lee Valley Tools website: "The Tucker Vise is the best woodworking vise made in the world today. Seldom can such a statement be made, but it can be made of this vise and we have the awards to prove it. The vise has 13" wide jaws that open 12" and have a 4" throat depth. It has double guide rods, a 1" main screw, and it weighs 50 lb. The most impressive feature is the full rotation and tilt capability – the vise rotates 360° and tilts from horizontal to vertical and can be locked at any combination of points in the two planes. The front jaw is normally locked in the parallel position, but can also be swiveled 10° either way and locked (or left free floating) to hold tapered work. Another feature is the automatic opening. An adjustable-tension device opens the vise when the top-release bar or the foot pedal is pressed, leaving your hands free to position the workpiece(s). The jaws are fitted with non-marring leather liners. Four 6" round dogs (two in each jaw) hold work up to 13" wide or 15" in diameter. Double guide rods are mounted slightly higher than the screw to prevent work marring. The vise is suspended from a mounting plate that forms half of the tilt hinge. An extra mounting plate and stanchion set is available to mount the vise in a second location. The main vise parts are cast and machined from ZA-12, an alloy as strong as cast iron, but less brittle, at only 80% of the weight. The castings have a lifetime guarantee against breakage. Other components are made of steel, brass, and aluminum. All parts (hinges, chain, spring, etc.) to build the foot pedal mechanism are included except the wood. The tremendous capacity of the vise, the integral dogs, the rotation, tilt, swivel, the quick release and automatic opening features let you use this vise for many functions that would otherwise require special jigs and fixtures. It replaces many other specialized tools. Awarded a Design and Engineering award by Popular Mechanics in 1992, the Tucker vise is above all easy to use." SHIPPING NOTES: The vise you will receive is the actual one you see in these photographs, all of which were taken by me. It will be shipped in it's original heavy cardboard box with factory packing materials and surrounded by an outer plywood crate to insure safe delivery. I will ship it anywhere in the USA or Canada or it can be picked up locally. Keep in mind that the cost of FedEx Ground will be somewhat less if it is shipped to a business or commercial address rather than a residence. The crate measures 24" x 14" x 13" and weighs 62 pounds. I am starting this auction with a Buy-it-Now price of $2650.00 which will disappear after individual bids are placed. If someone uses the Buy-it-Now option, I will ship the vise for free. I guarantee it to perform perfectly. As with everything I offer on eBay, if you are not happy with this vise or my description of it, I'll take it back and refund your money. In 16 years as an eBay member, I have always given Buyers the quality and objectiveness that we all hope for. I invite you to check out my eBay profile and read the 100% positive comments in my feedback section. I'm not a dealer or a professional eBayer.
