Thermo IEC Multi RF Refrigerated Tabletop Centrifuge   For sale- a Thermo IEC Multi RF Refrigerated Tabletop Centrifuge.  Physically overall I would consider the unit to be in good physical condition.  I think the one scuff on the front underneath the control panel will probably scrub off, but I didn’t have any cleaning supplies on hand when the pictures were taken.  The one rust spot (I guess) over on the right hand edge, that probably either you will have to live with or touch up with spray paint.   As you can see in the pictures the interior of the centrifuge is very clean.  When I first bought the thing it had no rotor installed, and like many centrifuges it won’t run without the rotor so I couldn’t test it.  Rather than sell and ship it out untested I went ahead and bought an 8947 rotor with four 51345 buckets (250ml I think) and four 6558E aerosol capped inserts.  As you can see three of the four buckets are a bit scarred up on the bottom, not badly but certainly they won’t pass for new.  Not sure whether that was from bad handling somewhere along the way or maybe it wasn’t properly fastened in on a run and bad things happened.  Again, important to note that the rotor was purchased from an entirely different source than the centrifuge, so if there was an accident it wasn’t in this centrifuge.   Also important to note, I do NOT have the original hold down screw for the rotor.  For testing purposes a 3/8-24 nut with a brass washer was installed.  I am guessing for everyday use you should find a replacement nut or cap or whatever is typically used to secure the rotor.  I will not be held responsible for any catastrophic failures if you decide to test your luck with the current arrangement.   With the rotor snugged down the centrifuge very quickly spins up to the set point in terms of speed.  Given the damage to the rotor buckets I started off at 1000RPM, went to 1500, then 2000, and finally 2500, where I let it spin for over a half an hour.  Without the proper hold down nut and having no idea what the max speed of the rotor should be that was as fast as I was prepared to go with it.  At that speed there is absolutely no discernible vibration so I would say that the damage to the bottom of the buckets is superficial, or at least that it doesn’t appear to have affected their spin capabilities.   Two other things that you need to know.  First, when you close the lid and press the start button it always says LID and so you have to give it a pretty solid whop on both corners of the lid.  After that it is good to go.  Second, I set the temperature on -9 just to see how low it would go.  The lowest reading I saw was 2 degrees as pictured, and it isn’t that unusual for a centrifuge in motion to not go down as low as the set point since the motor obviously is generating some heat.  But when I popped it open at the end of the run you can see frost on the inside of the rotor compartment and the buckets felt really cold to the touch and in fact still had frost on them at least five minutes after I took them out.  So I am guessing the actual temp was below 0 at least.  Maybe it just takes the sensor awhile to react or maybe it needs a new sensor.  So there you have it, warts and all.   Untested other than as described, sold as is, and NO warranty is offered.  However, IF you pay the asking price and find it has a problem you cannot live with within 14 days of receipt you may return it.  Returns are ONLY allowed on Buy It Now Purchases.  Accepted Best Offers are strictly an as is sale, no returns allowed.  Return would be for a refund of the purchase price, not including shipping costs, which will be substantial.   Just so that we are clear on that, this is an item that has not been thoroughly tested.  As such it may work fine or it may have problems, so any purchase entails a certain degree of risk.  If you Buy It Now your risk is limited to the shipping costs both ways.  If you submit an offer you do so knowing that you cannot return it.  In either case it is up to you to decide whether the risk level is acceptable to you, and if not you need to pass on this particular item.   If you don’t want the installed rotor please make me an offer noting it is for the centrifuge only, and I will be happy to sell the rotor separately.  Please check out my other listings for more interesting lab, test, and optical equipment.  Check back often!   Sold as is, as described, as pictured.  Potential buyers are asked to please make sure you have read the listing carefully, and understand what you are buying.  Ebay’s condition codes for used items, which I am now required to select from, might imply a degree of functionality that my limited time, knowledge, and facilities do not allow me to ascertain.  If the functional condition of the item is known it will be stated as such in the listing.  Unless a warranty is specifically offered returns are not accepted regardless of any implied functionality.   You are also encouraged to visit my “ME” page, where my terms, conditions, and philosophy of doing business are outlined.  I don’t think anything there is outside the bounds of normal e-commerce, but they are binding on the transaction.   Shipping will be motor freight on a pallet unless you would like to come pick it up.  I would estimate the shipping weight at around 300 pounds.  I would estimate the freight cost for that at between $200 and $400 to the east and west coast respectively.  Residential deliveries, deliveries that require liftgates, deliveries to the boonies, and deliveries to schools or universities will all be more because it takes longer for the carrier to get the job done.  Shipping will be via Old Dominion Freight Lines, which has done a consistently good job getting my shipments where they are going without roughing them up.  I will be happy to quote you for the shipment, but I need to know the zip code, residential or commercial, and whether a lift gate will be required.   If you would prefer to use another carrier that’s fine .  It will be shipping from a warehouse with a loading dock in zip code 23093, but I do not live there!  I require pickup confirmation the day before and your carrier must provide an emailed printable copy of the Bill of Lading so that there is paperwork available for the driver to sign when he gets there.  The BOL should have all the info filled out when I receive it, blank copies are unacceptable.   I can ship this to Canada via Old Dominion, but they do not offer customs brokerage services, so you would need to have your own customs broker lined up before it shipped.
