TLC59116 I2C LED 16 Channel PWM Driver Board for Arduino, chipKIT, Raspberry Pi The TLC59116 chip from Texas Instruments is one of the best LED drivers around at the moment. Not only does it provide 16 constant current LED Sink ports for controlling 16 directly connected LEDs (NO resistors required!), but each and every LED can be controlled with 8-bit PWM. Because the 16 outputs are constant current sinks, no resistors are required for any of your LEDs. The current is controlled by a single resistor on the board. By default a 1Kω resistor is fitted, which gives about 20mA current. The resistor can easily be changed (it's 0603 so can be hand soldered if you are careful) to a different value for other uses. We have a selection of resistors in stock if you want to have the resistor changed before shipping (just ask us). Also, because the chip is an I2C chip, the whole shebang is controlled through just 4 wires, including the power. This board has not only the TCM59116 chip on it, but also a 3.3V voltage regulator. That means that the board's running voltage is independent of the voltage you provide it with. As the LED sink ports can cope with up to 17V (which allows you to chain multiple LEDs together in series) the on-board regulator means you only need to provide the voltage you want to run the LEDs at. Another great feature of the TLC59116 is the ability to chain up to 14 boards together on one I2C bus and address each one individually. That's 224 LEDs (more if you use series chains of LEDs) all controlled by one single I2C bus! This board has a handy set of solder pads for setting the board address (addresses are from 0 to 15, but addresses 8 and 11 are reserved for special use). Address 8 is a special address that addresses all the boards in a chain at once, so you can set all your LEDs to the same brightness with just one command! The chip also provides some of its own animation abilities for blinking and fading LEDs without any intervention from your controller. I have written a small Arduino library to handle the basic operations of the chip (setting individual LED brightnesses) and is available here If you want the data sheet for the TLC59116 chip it can be downloaded here Business seller information Majenko Technologies Contact details Matthew Jenkins 18 Court Road Ross on Wye Herefordshire HR9 7XD United Kingdom Phone:0845 805 5358 Email:matt@sqsol.co.uk Return policy To qualify for a hassle-free return, you must pay with PayPal and have the item shipped to a US address.
