Tourneau Descriptions:     1.)              Black/ Gold CLASSIQUE MMXV,   This fine Tourneau Classic Writing Instrument has been sold in the past for $349.99, REF: FAHRNEY'S AT THEIR AIRPORT LOCATIONS, 1990-95   This fine Writing Instrument was the 2nd in the fine line of writing instruments that Tourneau produced in the late 80's-early 1990's. The famous “MMXV” line is well known amongst Pen Collectors. It was produced to fill a gap in the Market, for pens that wrote just as well, maybe better than the $500 Mxxxxs! This was the era of  “showmanship”, and BIG egos in the business world! Everyone, needed to have a $250 Parker or a $500 Mxxxc, or you werent worth doing business with! So, in comes Tourneau, they worked for months and months, producing different Prototypes, each being tirelessly tested, and tested. They sent pens to different fortune 500 companies to be tried out. Finally, they paired up with a man who had connections in the overseas business trade. He was able to give Tourneau a LEAP FORWARD, and came up with first the Tourneau 2001 pen. This pen was recognized by business leaders both in America and abroad. The 2001, had a guarantee, that set it apart from the Mxxxxxxxxxxxxxs 2 yr warranty, and to seal the deal, this pen was being offered at first for under $100. Tourneau then paired up with a Major Company who had access to the most affluent people. That Company, was American Express. Amex had a division that offered mail order to its Gold Card Members. Thus, Amex offered first the 2001 pen, then a year or so later, came the MMXV, which had everything the 2001 pen did and more. First and foremost, the 2001 model had an 18kt gold plating, that began to wear off and flake. The next version was upgraded to a 23kt gold plating, 5 microns thick! The boxes varied, but mainly, the mmxv models were housed in a black velvet type case, that had gold trimmings. The models that came later were housed in all wood boxes, the popular “coffin box”, housed the 3001 Gold and Silver models. The 2 pc. Pens set was housed in a very nice Tourneau wooden box, with felt interior trappings. The “MMXV” had the sleek look. The MMXV had a black marbled resin, with a lacquer finish that was Spectacular! The MMXV also had what most pen companies in the 1980's hadnt thought of yet. It was the Rollerball refill, that was Ruby Tipped, and wrote with Diamond precision! The refill was strictly from Germany. Other companies try to copy, but very few can live up to Tourneau's strict standards! The MMXV also carried a far better warranty than its predecessor. A Warranty carried into the 21st century! The MMXV felt good in your hand. It wrote with utter perfection! They had done it! They had finally produced a Businessman's pen, with a very decent price, and a warranty others couldnt compete with. And now, a Major, mass marketing machine called American Express Gold Card Members Specialty Services. The head of Amex Merchandise Division at the time was a woman. A very strong and well known driven, saavy, businesswoman. Her name was Anne Busquet . Anne was sent several of the 2001 pens, as well as the upgraded MMXV models. Anne was convinced that this new, Tourneau Pen would be a sell out. So, joined business partners, both Amex and Tourneau began to make a lot of money from a little 5.25 inch item, the 2001 and the MMXV pens!   Amex sold over 2 million models of the Tourneau pen. They allowed their card members to charge it to their card, or finance it. Tourneau then became alittle aggressive by producing various models of its pens. They were sold in different outlets, including Fahrneys Stores. Fahrneys by the way, was able to sell the silver, and the all gold plated for close to $400! The main selling point of those two models were that they were engravable! Tourneau left an area on the cap that was wide enough for initials! So, now the Saavy Businessman could have his cake and eat it too! NO where else could you get a pen with so much body, grace, style and richness + LUXURY for under $400 bucks, and also a “No Questions asked” warranty! They produced and mass distributed the famous “3001” pens. These were again an upgrade. They sold them in a 2 pc set, fountain and ballpoint. The set was housed in a piano lacquered case. The other pens were a 3001 silver plated pen with gold accents, as well as an all gold plated 3001 pen, the “Chairmans” model. Other pens that were tested included different colored marble resins, all with the 23kt gold plating. Well, after the rush, and many years had passed. Other Pen companies joined in, or their existence would be shortened. Thus, Tourneau lost their Marketing Machine in Amex, and housed the thousands of pens in their main warehouse, in Manhattan,NY. Thus, Tourneau, after many years, decided to again produce a pen, this time,an all solid sterling silver pen, called the Gotham Series! (sells for $595.00 for a ballpoint). Tourneau then sold off its old inventories in its warehouses. Thus, they are now on Ebay, and other venues. We carry the German refills for all of the Tourneau pens. They can also be bought at Jewelery Stores who sell fine pens, as well as Stationary Stores. Note: The molds were different on some of the older models. The older models require a strong spring inside, as well as thinner refills. We have them both.   You are bidding on a piece of Tourneau history. In Fact, if and when you ever send your Tourneau Pen back to Tourneau for repair, they no longer stock the parts, so they keep the pen, and send you a $100 gift certificate.   Once again, we are offering a Gorgeous Pen, at a very good, NO, a Fantastic price!   Most Tourneau pens are 5.25 inches capped, and 5.75 inches posted. We are shipping all pens with fresh German ink in the barrels, and another refill! The cases are somewhat tattered in some cases, as they have been stored for almost 20 yrs. Some are dusty. Some have surface scratches from handling, as seen under a Jewelers loupe! BUT, the pens themselves are A#1, brand NEW/ OLD Stock!
