This auction is for a Elpam Trapped Person Locator. this sophisticated instrument was originally designed to help locate people trapped in downed buildings or other disaster / fire locations. especially helpful during fires , earthquakes and in places where war might be waging in bombed buildings. this device can be used in many other applications such as ground vibration intrusion detection, paranormal investigations / ghost hunting and interesting earthquake seismic / geophone study uses. this kit comes with 9 different geophone - seismic detectors. one of the 9 geophones contains a sensitive 2 way speaker device for remote communications with a found trapped person or possible communication with a paranormal entity. this kit operates portable and in remote locations off 12vdc with it accessory 12v battery clips or it's independent battery pack. it has two headphone outputs and comes with a set of suitable headphones. the spare headphone outputs can also be connected to the sound card of a laptop for recording seismic / earthquake data or for paranormal investigations. the kit also comes with 3ea new 50' cables suitable to remote locate ( up to 100' apart ) the seismic / geophone vibration sensors. it comes with the short cables to connect up the remote device switch in the lid to the amplifier module. originally this set was constructed up with left and right channels intended for seismic sensors / vibration detection ........ now it is set up to have the speaker / communicator geophone connected ( sensibly ) exclusively to the left channel for audible communications. communications takes place between the 9th geophone with the holes in the base ( the remote talk - listen sensor ) , the headphones and the microphone which is the coiled cord at the right bottom of the amplifier panel. there are 8 geophone - seismic vibration sensors. these are no ordinary geophones as they all are omni geophones with built in preamplifiers , bnc connectors and carry - placement handle on the top of each geophone. each of the 8 amplified geophones has a built in ( screw driver adjust ) volume control to adjust the gain of the amplifier. the frequency response of the geophones comes in 4 different bands of frequency. from 1 - 4 hz up to about 40hz. there is one pair of each geophone / frequency response . with 4 bands of frequency response in total ( plus the audio frequency geophone / speaker ). up to 4 different geophones are cabled to the selector box in the case lid and one or combinations of sensors are selected depending upon the task at hand. three brand new 50 cables come with the kit and it would be possible to set up a seismic detection grid of any shape or size up to about 50' distance ....... 100' on a side. any or all of the 4 different frequency geophones would be connected to the right side amplifier channel, only as the left side is dedicated to communications. there are 4 basic geophones and 4 spares of each geophone in case one ever failed. a pair of each geophone frequency allows for a wide array of possibilities for detection by using 4 different sensors or combinations of pairs if one particular frequency range seems more productive at the time. this TPL has exciting possibilities if used for seismic study, paranormal investigations and / or emergency response applications. the 4 extra sensors could be sold off separately or developed into individual amplified omni geophone sensors for scientific use. this kit was VERY expensive when new , costing well over $12,000.
