This Venetian Gondola Model was specially designed & built by the plank on bulkhead method (joining multiple small pieces of wood like Rosewood, Mahogany, Teak and other exotic tropical wood together on the hull). The gondola model is built exactly to scale and painted as an original 1882 Venetian Gondola was with many details. The task required skillful craftsmen over 50 hours to accomplish. The wooden hull is painted black, the interior of the deck house is red as are the tourist seats. The lanterns are cast metal and the sculputures are cast brass, there are no plastic parts on this model. Included is a wooden stand with a brass nameplate. The gondola is a traditional, flat-bottomed Venetian rowing boat, well suited to the conditions of the Venetian Lagoon. For centuries gondolas were once the chief means of transportation and most common watercraft within Venice. In modern times the iconic boats still have a role in public transport in the city, serving as traghetti (ferries) over the Grand Canal. They are also used in special regattas (rowing races) held amongst gondoliers. It is similar to punting, except it uses an oar to propel it instead of a pole.
