This is a rare, old Starrett inside diameter (ID) Mic #120. It has NO MODEL NUMBER ON IT and was discounted in the very early 1930's. Its the forerunner to the Model #124 that has knurled stops on each individual rod and has the model stamped on it. This model has a slot cut into the front "nose" and a thin line inscribed across it see pix. There are also thin lines inscribed on each rod that you line them up with the ones in the nose. See pix. Now that'll get you CLOSE BUT NO CIGAR. Then you take your OD Mic and VERY CAREFULLY use it as super accurate "C" clamp that pushes the end of the stem back into the micrometer body until it reads "0" on the Mic. Tighten up both little set screws and you're all done. PIECE OF CAKE! It measures from 2" to 8" with just four rods. No rust, pitting or dislocation on either the Mic head or rods! See pix. *** NOTE *** THOSE UGLY BROWN LINES ARE NOT ON THE MIC!! They're caused by my camera somehow. This is a FULLY FUNCTIONAL TOOL and a great find for the Starrett collector as it's well over 80 yrs old and in remarkable condition. If you need any other pictures feel free to ask. I'm indebted to Don Olsen of the Long Island Antique Tool Association for his help in researching the history and background of this micrometer. TY Don, I owe you one! AS ALWAYS ASK ?? & BEST OF LUCK ON YOUR BIDDING!:-)
