Never used replacement probe for the military AN/PD63 radiac meter slightly modified to hold shorter 1B85 tube installed a new tested later model ribbed 1B85 900 Volt tube. ( hot dog pickle side window probe ) Sensitive to BETA, GAMMA, X-RAY, and BREMSSTRAHLUNG X-RAY RADIATION Probe body is a tad over 9" including connector ( plenty long enough to hold over source without your hand blocking the window ) it is 13/8" dia. light weight aluminum with lead shielding behind the tube and over with window closed. The 1B85 Geiger tube is TWICE as sensitive as the tubes used in Ludlum 44-6 and Eberline HP 270 and is the same size and interchangeable with those other probes as well as them with this probe housing. Higher sensitivity by design the entire tube is thin wall aluminum not just a small area hence the higher background of about 100+ CPM and and count rate of even lower energy sources. Photo 3 detecting normal background, photo 4 shows it sniffing around PANDORAS lead pig detecting small source through 3/8" thick lead, photo 5 lid off PANDORA escaping less than 3 mR/Hr gamma inside. This is the last military probe body I have also last 1B85 ( GEIGER COUNTER, TEST SOURCE, and SIGN ARE NOT INCLUDED )
