This item is in near-excellent condition and weighs 10 pounds. It has no reserve or buy it now options. This is an item up for auction that is difficult to find: the Victoreen Model 70 Condenser R Meter radiation by Glasser and Seitz X-ray. This device, serial number 846, was created by the Victoreen Instrument Company of Cleveland, Ohio and was advertised in 1954 as "at the heart of radiation measurement and still growing in versatility." The Model 70 was designed based on a 1928 design by Glasser and Seitz and was well-liked for its ruggedness and flat energy response. It was primarily used to measure exposure rates associated with diagnostic and therapeutic x-ray units but was also adaptable for gamma ray measurements through the use of interchangeable air-equivalent condenser chambers. The Model 70 is equipped with a recessed focus control adjustment and three controls on the side of the case, a zero adjust, discharge control knob, and charging control knob. The latter also serves as a button to illuminate the scale. The ionization chambers used with the condenser R meter are made of Bakelite, and the protective steel cap can be used with the 0 - 100 R chamber. The condenser R meter was a compact, portable, battery-operated device that allowed for the precise measurement of gamma radiation and X-ray dosage in International Roentgens. The unit's purpose was to charge and read the level of radiation exposure through interchangeable air-equivalent condenser chambers. The chambers were charged by the unit and then exposed to radiation for a short period, and when reconnected to the Model 70, the exposure level (in roentgens) was read from an illuminated scale through the eyepiece.
