Vintage 1944 Wwii Army Air Borne Backpack W/suspension (june 22, 1944)

For Auction:  US Army Airborne equipment backpack with suspension which belonged to my Uncle  who was in the 82nd Airborne Division and trained at Camp Claiborne, Louisiana.  When he arrived  home, part of his jump gear came home with him and included this equipment backpack.  There was also a Bolo which is listed in another auction. Description:  The backpack is of laminated wood made by the Red Lion Cabinet Company of New England at the time.  Date of production is on the backpack and is June 22, 1944, exactly when the Allied Invasion had gotten underway. Historical Use:  Laminated frame suspension style backpacks were used to strap heavy gear such as mortar and/or mortar bases, dynamite discharge plunge boxes, field radios or other necessary pieces that would otherwise cut into the carries back if not on a rigid frame such as this.   Condiiton: Used but very good to excellent shape.  All original from fittings to materials to paint.  There is a name & camping identifier on the frame put on with a black felt tip marker years ago when I went to Philmont as a boy.  So this backpack was used not only in WW2 Europe but at Philmont near  Cimmaron, New Mexico as well.  We have not tried to clean this item because we really do not want to damage it. Shipping:  There is a small handling fee to cover minimal packing materials.  Item will be safely packed and will ship quickly if paid quickly.  This is not an easy item to estimate shipping on.  Any excess shipping will be refunded via PAYPAL.
