Here is Basic Open Hearth Steelmaking by the Physical Chemistry of Steelmaking Committee, Iron & Steel Division, AIME.  It has a copyright date of 1951; it was published by The American Institute of Mining and Metallurgical Engineers.  This covers basic open-hearth furnaces; survey of operations; open-hearth refractories; open-hearth fuels, combustion, and instrumentation; raw materials; slag control; charging and melting practice; refining practice; finishing and deoxidation practice; molds and pouring practice; ingot structure and segregation; nonmetallic inclusions; properties of steel as influenced by constitution; physical chemistry of high-temperature reactions; kinetics of metallurgical processes; physical chemistry of liquid steel; physical chemistry of slag-metal reactions; physical chemistry of open-hearth refractories; thermal changes in melting and refining; gas flow and heat transfer; combustion and utilization of fuel; and rates of open-hearth reactions.  This has 940 pages.  It measures about 6 1/4" by 9 1/4".
