Up for auction here is an antique original printers block cut for use in letterpress printing, bearing an early Motorcycle Racing photo. The print is made from a zinc metal faceplate attached to a hardwood block. The image depicts the winner of the race sitting astride his cycle while a young lady in Fities attire hands him a trophy. Another man stands behind the bike holding a motorcycle jacket. Hanging in the background are Motorcycle Club Jackets bearing a backpatch reading "MHRA Drag Strip" - the logo for the MHRA Race Track is in the center of the jackets. The winning motorcycle appears to be an early twin cylinder chopper of uncertain model - there's writing on the side of the gastank that I can't quite make out, looks like it may be a Norton. Condition is VG- / Very Good-: There are a few defects to mention apart from mild signs of wear from age & use. This plate has several very mild surface discolorations, & a gummy left margin, but very little wear overall to the plate - nothing that should be obstructive. The plate is not too flat, it's slightly cupped, but should still print well. The upper-left corner is also blunted. The plate is affixed to wooden blocks, but unfortunately one is missing & the others are somewhat deteriorated....The plate measures 5 1/4" x 6.5" inches. The back is blank.
