Vintage Carrying Case Wood W Blue/black Wrap Latch Handle Purpose?: Please Read!

THIS IS NOT A RECORD CASE-- I KNOW IT LOOKS LIKE ONE! I am familiar with 33/45/78 RPM records and this is not for any of those: It is far too large for 7" records, just barely too small for 10" records, and way too small for 12" records. The original purpose for this box is likely files of some sort. Inner dimensions (not including lid): 9.75" wide x 8" tall x 5" deep. The lid adds 1.25" of inner height. . Outer dimensions (not including handle): 9.75" tall x 10.25" wide x 5.5" deep The box has a built-in divider that splits the depth of the box until 3" down. No brand or trademarks visible. The case is made of lightweight wood wrapped in a faux leather textured wrap and apparently painted after assembly. No locking mechanism on latch. Reinforced at bottom edges. No major defects, just normal wear from age and use and one 1/2-inch chip in wrapping on back top edge (see photos for details). Ripe for repurpose, this curious little case is sturdy and up to the task. If you know exactly what its purpose was, please message me! Shipped with USPS Priority Mail.
