This is a piece of journalistic history: This is one of the famous "Printer's Stick" or "Line Rulers" (also known as a "PICAS Ruler since it measured "pica" fonts. It was produced for, and sold/distributed by one of America's most important newspapers, the "Washington Star," which for decades was the "newspaper of record in Washington, long before the upstart "Washington Post." It closed - with tears shed all over the journalistic world in 1981.  "Printer's Sticks" were used to measure different font sizes (this is back in the day when computers didn't even print things!) and this Line Ruler has four different scales, for PICAS, Agate, 6-12 Point, and inch measurement. They were distributed to newsrooms all over the USA by the Star, as part of the "correspondent newspaper" system where stories and photos were shared.  THIS Printer's Stick has a phenominal (and provable) pedigree: It was owned by (and used by), famed award-winning Robert Q. Jacobs, one of the lead photographers for the Dayton Daily News, the Detroit News, and the Sacramento Bee from the early 1950s into the 1980, and is now being offered by his daughter. It is likely that "Bob" Jacobs obtained it in the 1960s, while leading the photography department of the Detroit News.  This ruler is in PERFECT condition, containing NO marks and still holding the original metal edges used by newsroom/photo department staff to "tear" sheets of paper with a perfect straight cut.  If you're a journalism junky, love the history of Washington, DC journalism, or just like fine, small, practical antiques, DO NOT MISS THIS SALE. Yes, there are a few others like it that have been sold on eBay. But NONE have the provenance of THIS delightful piece.  BID NOW!
