Up For Auction: Vintage Jewelers Red Rouge Block, "RELIANCE". This is a solid block of red rouge jewelers compound, weighing in at approximately 2 pounds 8 plus ounces. The block measures slightly over 8 inches long at the top, about 2-1/8 inches high, and about 2-1/2 inches wide at the bottom base. On the top of the block is stamped, "RELIANCE", "CHAS.F.L HOMMEDIEU & SONS CO.", "CHICAGO, ILL". Do not know the age of this block, but am guessing 1950's, or perhaps older. This has been in this household since at least the late 1950's or longer. The block has always been in a dry, stable environment, so it is solid, with no powdering, or flaking. Very nice condition with some chipping on the edges, and some surface abrasion. Bottom has original crude markings from original casting. If you are a jeweler, this would make a really great display item for you, it would be a shame to use it, since it has survived in the present condition so long.
