Vintage Letterpress Printer's Type Drawer Wood Type Empty Case (no Dividers)

Vintage Letterpress Type tray or drawer.  Full Size Case, Empty (no dividers) .  We think that these drawers were marketed as "Empty" or Wood Type" Cases.  Brass cabinet pull.   This drawer has never had any dividers. The drawer has a circular Hamilton Mfg Co. "Made in USA" maker's mark stamped on the top of the rear frame board (see photo).  This mark along with the construction style of the bottom indicates that the drawer was made prior to 1896. The drawer is structurally solid. The bottom is plywood and in great shape.  There are some chips out of the top edge of the face (see next to last photo). This drawer measures approximately 32 1/8" x 16 5/8".  The Handle adds another 3/4".   Interior depth of the drawer is about 1 1/8" while the outside depth is about 1 7/16" on the sides and back while the raised center portion of the face is about 1 13/16" tall. We wiped down the face of the frame with wood cleaner but cleaned the rest of the drawer with a cloth moistened with tap water.  We scrubbed a spot in the front center of the bottom so you could see how clean the wood would get with just a water scrub (easy to see in the main and other photos and we included a detail shot in the last photo).  A second round or maybe some household cleaner and it would be ready to show. Great drawer for large type or cuts. The drawer would also be an excellent candidate for making your own custom dividers suitable for your particular collectibles.  An easy drawer to refinish to fit your needs. Questions? Please Ask.
