Last chance before it goes to the scrap yard. Selling items from my parents estate. Mom has moved in and father has passed away. This Lathe actually belongs to my Uncle. He found out I was selling items on e-bay and asked if I would list this for sale. As I don't know anything about lathes. My uncle told me what it is. And all info I've tried to retell as he told me. This is a Lodge, Davis & Co. Metal Lathe. Made in Cincinnati, Ohio. Is from the 1940's - 50's era. Also has a plaque with Chandler & Farquhar Machinists Supplies Boston Mass. Motor is a Drive All, made in Detroit Mich. I was told that this is a 24" (pointing to the big chuck that holds the metal) Lathe. Has an 8' bed, with total length around 14'. Around 3' wide where motor is. Lathe is mounted and secured on two cut I-Beams for the base. I-Beams go with lathe. Motor is a 3 phase motor, runs off 220v. Lathe has 4 speed transmission? for turning of lathe. This is equipped with a Steady Rest attachment. See pics. Selling in as-is condition. Did ask my uncle if it ran. He said oh yea. It works. Just wants to make room in his shop. He has owned it for at least 20 yrs. he said. I am listing this as a local pick-up only. I will not be able to deliver or ship. Will have area cleaned for easy loading. Any questions just ask. I don't do returns. Remember Moneytalks in the 971. Q: Little is known about this old lathe manufacturer. Your model seems to be a large one - which are hard to sell due to size & weight - but consequently may be quite rare. The pictures don't show if you still have the change gears (for thread cutting) and taper attachment (on the back of the bed) that came with these lathes; obviously you're missing its original cast iron legs. The Do-All mechanism IS around 1940-1950 and, like the sheetmetal fitted for safety around the head, is a later addition that somewhat disguises the old flat belt lathe's true age. It looks quite restore-able but I'd say calling it "in working condition" a bit of a stretch. Almost certainly, any serious bidder will want to come check it out in person before making an offer. Would that be possible? I sincerely hope you manage to save it from the scrap merchants. It belongs in a museum or in a tourist railroad enginehouse. (asked Dec-06-14) A: Thank you for the info. You may be right. But any serious buyers are welcome to check it out. I will need to make sure my uncle will be available, as it is his and knows how to run it. I will post this for others to see. Thanks again for your input, the more the better. Then someone can see the potential of it. I called my uncle to see if he has the change gears as you mentioned. He does not. I know he doesn't have the taper either. I also asked again if it worked, my uncle said oh yeah. But again you or any other bidder is welcomed to check it out in person. Uncle has no problem with that. And it would be a shame if it did end up for scrap metal. That's why my uncle asked me to list it on eBay. I live at Silverlake WA. 98645 and my uncle lives about 10miles further up the mountain. Q: Actually its from before 1893 - when the successor Lodge & Shipley was founded (asked Dec-03-14) A: Thank you, I will post it on the listing for others to see.
