Medicine bottle Marked: MEDICINAL DEPARTMENT U.S. NAVY 3/7/47 RX No___________ DIRECTIONS ELIXIR SODIUM BROMIDE USE AS DIRECTED   Measures 4” tall, 1 1/4 ” square. Has approximately 1/3 of its original contents remaining and I have never opened it. I obtained it from a foot locker my deceased father had as he was in the Navy at that time. Also known as Sedoneural, sodium bromide has been used as a hypnotic, anticonvulsant, and sedative in medicine, widely used as an anticonvulsant and a sedative in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Its action is due to the bromide ion, and for this reason potassium bromide is equally effective.
