Attention machine and Colt gun collectors, this is only one of twenty of these metal shapers ever produced and one of three known to exist today. They were purchased by the government to be used by Colt manufacturing to assure repeatability of parts for the union in the civil war. If old pictures of the Colt factory floor were found these machines would be seen. One of these machines is on display at the Vermont Precision Museum in Windsor, Vermont (confirmed) and the other is with a collector in Texas. I bought this machine in the south as a part of a group of machines and the seller was very happy that I was bringing it back to Connecticut which is where he originally bought it. This machine appears to be complete even with the swiveling vise. I am certain it originally was belt driven and then a long time ago this very cool Century single phase motor was added which needs a good cleaning and sparks right now. In fact, I like the motor a lot and would like to keep it. If you want to put the machine back into its original belt driven form the rear section of the unit containing the motor could be removed. This machine is fully functional but in my opinion should be preserved for all to enjoy as an important part of our American manufacturing history. I can see this machine painted in a gloss black with gold pinstriping and then placed in someone's special display area. The machine is quite beautiful with its open lattice design showing the inner workings. I am not a collector of machines and can only keep machines that are to be used. A word about myself, I am an avid cook, mechanical engineer, bicyclist, blacksmith and copper pot repairer. I like products from around the world, especially those from Europe because I think they have perfected things over a long period of time and food is a big part of life in Europe.
