Vintage Printer’s Memorabilia—a Printer's “stick”

US $3700

Printers called this a "stick" and used it for handset type composition. It’s a bit of graphic arts memorabilia now, but printers would use these to compose handset type, standing over the type cases and selecting type one character at a time until they had a line of type assembled. This unit dates only from the 1950's, so it probably makes this at least vintage, although ones like it have been used almost since the beginning of printing. This one is made of aluminum.
