Submitted for your approval is a fantastic treasure of yore, a Sony BM-45 Secutive Cassette Transcriber, in its original box, with accessories and hand-written inspection ticket from the Japanese technicians who inspected it before delivery.  Included are the foot-pedal remote control unit, a really terrible pair of semi-pneumatic earphones, a dust cover, and a telephone pickup.  Except for the box for the earphones and the main box, everything is in astonishingly good order.  The high-end transcription and dictation machines in the Secutive range are some of Sony's most beautiful products, and this is no exception, with a stunning mix of woodgrain, piano-black and chrome.  The cabling is exceptionally thick and even the crummy earphones have textured cable!  We have tested the machine out, and found the following:  Unit is about 85% operational.  Playback is fine, speed, volume, and tone controls work smoothly and well, as does the backspace control.  Fast-Forward is a little "slippy" and rewind functions very peculiarly: when actuated from the deck, the unit is very reluctant to rewind, like a belt is on its last legs.  When the left half of the foot pedal is pressed, though, the unit rewinds perfectly and very quickly!  the audio quality from the inbuilt speaker is exceptional, as one would expect from Sony.  Amazingly, the little handwritten inspection ticket has survived, proclaiming to all and each that Mr. E. Yamasita checked the units performance, Mr. N. Kobayashi approved its appearance, Mr. N. Muraoka gave it the O.K. for delivery.  This is truly a piece of Sony's history.  There is even the original, sealed packet containing extra pads for the earphones; the originals had degraded into a sodden mass of sticky black nastyness and have been discarded for your benefit.  The spares are not looking too good either, I'm afraid, but they're there nonetheless.  I'm sure suitable replacements can be found -I'd also look among microphone windsocks as well.  Altogether this is an excellent piece of high-end luxury business goods from Sony, suitable for display or, after a small service, use.  Due to its age and reliance upon rubber drive mechanisms, we must offer it As-Is.
