Carole Lombard Mannequin Vintage 1930’s Hollywood actress & Movie star Made in 1930 –1950s   Handmade & painted by Caratta - World’s most famous leading mannequin makers. Here’s some history information: Carole Lombard Born 1908 - went on to become a very famous actress. Carole married Clark Gable but tragically died in an airplane crash in 1942 on Table Mountain – Nevada (please see the comparison photos included of Carole). Caratta Co  ‘Caratta studios’ traded during 1930-50s – it was Frank Caratta’s company. Frank was best known for his heads & his busts of leading celebrities.During this time there was fierce competition from other mannequin makers to create artistic retail display mannequins – hence why we really like the vintage ones, as they were handmade and created by talented artists & not by machines.  Frank Caratta would most probably have been Carole Lombard’s creator and artist. The mannequin is also stamped Caratta. I have also attached a few links (below) for information after the following item description. Measurements: Approx:  39cm high x 27cm wide x 23cm deep Material: Pottery / ceramic of some sort. Stamped Caratta co - Los Angeles on the base. Condition: I purchased Carole about 15 years ago in Newark International antique fair from a Danish trader & paid a fortune for her. Carole is rather old now – so does have signs of wear.  Photos give best images of condition & I would refer any interested party to view the back of the head + the other photo’s (as she is ceramic of some sort, Carole has received some damage – so is obviously fragile). I never had an original stand for Carole – in fact the one shown in photos is actually part of an extending kitchen roll holder (although it looks ok).  But as the Mannequin is ceramic & also trying to keep post costs down for a buyer – the kitchen roll holder will not be included in the parcel because it could possibly damage Carole while in transit & also the stand weighs quite a lot. So a buyer would benefit more by buying their own preference of stand, as cheaper than the stand being posted & less risky. However if a buyer would like the stand included please be aware post prices would increase, because a much larger box would be required + the weight would increase. Post price at present is for Carole without the kitchen roll holder.  Here’s some information links to help: http://books.google.co.uk/books?id=ep2c8aBxLA4C&pg=PA20&lpg=PA20&dq=carrata++mannequin+company&source=bl&ots=kFc1Qlzyza&sig=QEoMO1wpoFZEhJAixIE4KwzzPaw&hl=en&ei=LQDFTuOVBIHLhAeS9aGEDg&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=4&sqi=2&ved=0CGEQ6AEwAw#v=twopage&q&f=false  Also this book regarding vintage Mannequins is also very informative: Counter Culture .  The allure of mini mannequins.
