VistaView CableTec (VVC) Stainless Steel Stemball Swage with Gray Cap for 1/8" Cable The VVC Stemball Swage provide a "dead end" for a cable run. Plastic gray cap and 2 x stainless washers are included. The cap snaps directly onto the washers and provide a nice, decorative end to a run. The Stemballs are not tensioners as they must be anchored before the other end of your cable run is tensioned. The Stemball Swages are paired with a tensioner such as a Threaded Terminal or Turnbuckle. The Stemballs are good for indoor or outdoor applications. They are T316 "marine grade" stainless steel and hand-crimps onto the ends of your cable runs using a Hand Crimper Tool, which can be purchased or rented here: Hand Crimper Tool VVC recommends 1/8" cable and fittings for Residential applications because it is the smallest you can go while still passing building code. Some people choose to use a larger diameter cable like the 3/16" so that the cable will be more visible, whereas other people would rather see through the railing without seeing anything at all. Commercial projects typically call for 3/16" cable and Industrial applications recommend 1/4". Building codes differ from county to county across the United States, but VVC recommends spacing cables from 3" to 4" to ensure safety. The height of your posts (typically 36" or 42" high) will determine the number of cable runs that will be required.
