Vtg Superior Electric Powerstat Variable Transformer 9 A Type 2PF1226   Description: Up for sale is this estate rescued Superior Electric Company Powerstat Variable Transformer. This transformer is quite old.  We rescued it from an attic where it was covered in dirt.  We have given it a blowing out and light cleaning.  As you can see in the photos it has a bit of surface rust on the arrow and the center of the knob. This unit had an old lamp cord attached to it when we recovered it.  To show the voltage range we hooked up a cable which is not included with this sale. This unit adjusts smoothly from less than 1 VAC output to 143 VAC with no load. The name plate says: “Powerstat Variable Transformer Superior Electric Co., Bristol Conn U.S.A.” “PRI. V. 230 60? OUTPUT 9 A.”LIC. U.S. PAT. NO. 2,009,013”  That patent was granted in 1935. This is a large heavy unit weighing in at 25 lbs and measures 8 1/2” (tall including top knob)  x 8” (from side corner to corner) x 8 1/2” (from front to back). The voltage output seems to vary smoothly from 0% to 100%. The short pigtail on the unit is wire wrapped with cloth and shows some wear.  The previous owner has wound a piece of solder around the fuse holder in place of a fuse. A great old piece!
