This system is extremely versatile and simple to use. It can be easily modified for use with custom built equipment according to the requirements of the investigator. With an optimum load of 8?, the TC-344 controllers can provide 18 watts of heating per channel. User adjustment of both low and high output levels allows variable feedback depending on whether the system is operated in open or closed loop. This particular feature has the advantage of accommodating heating devices with different thermal delay characteristics. Each channel has the ability to handle the output from two thermistors; one for control (feedback) and one for monitoring temperature at a given point of interest, for example in the tissue chamber mounted on an inverted microscope. Highly filtered DC supplies and slow-ramped analog switching circuitry deliver power without adding noise to the system.
