Welch Allyn 18010 3.5V Spot Retinoscope   This is a genuine Welch Allyn 18010 Spot retinoscope that appears to have never been used.  The spot retinoscope is essential for Stress Point Retinoscopy and other near point retinoscopies (Bell, Book, etc.)  and is a favorite of Developmental and Behavioral Optometrists around the world.   Newer “spot” scopes, where a streak retinoscope has been “converted” by installing a spot bulb, can’t hold a "candle" to the quality illumination this retinoscope can provide.    If you have ever tried to use one of the “converted” streaks, they have a beam that is far too narrow and uneven.   This makes it nearly impossible to keep the light centered in the pupil and steady, a prerequisite for doing most near point retinoscopies.  The small size and variations in the light with the converted scope causes the reflex to be confusing and impossible to interpret.  Is the reflex change you are seeing, a change in the patient or just crappy, uneven illumination?    Make this awesome piece of optometric history your own!!   Thanks, as always, for looking and happy bidding!
