This desk set consists of both used and new components. The otoscope and ophthalmoscope are new in their sealed boxes. The batteries are new premium generic batteries that expire in 2016. The desk charger and the handles are used but in excellent condition. As an additional courtesy to the buyer, we have preconditioned the two, new premium generic #72200 batteries (dated 2016) to ensure long-term performance of the handles. List price on this set is over $970. Price of this item (new) on Amazon is $833 (when shipping is included). Preconditioning consists of the following: 1) We charge the battery for 16 hours and then totally discharge the battery (discharge takes over an hour), 2) We charge the battery a second time for 16 hours and totally discharge the battery again, and finally 3) We charge the battery for 16 hours a third time and then insert the battery into the handle for future use. Preconditioning enables the user to obtain the maximum charge life from a nickel-cadmium battery.
