This is a new set that has been developed at the request of mission teams and medical/nursing students that have repeatedly requested a modern/contemporary set that is available at the lowest cost possible. You will not find this set listed in the Welch Allyn catalog/website since it is a custom-made set. Our sales manager and marketing manager worked tirelessly to design this set (shaving every penny feasible from the cost without compromising on quality or components). Their efforts resulted in this cost-saving set that is priced $50 less than anything on the market today. The best price on Amazon at this writing for a similar set (97150-MC) is $526.26 and the lowest price we could find on the internet/Google was $480.76. List price on a similar set is over $740. Our savings were achieved by replacing the rechargeable handle (71000-C) that contains a $40 (72300) battery with a Welch Allyn handle (71054-C) that works only with household "C" batteries. We also saved a modest amount on the cases (they can now be ordered without the green box). The handle in this set cannot be recharged by plugging it into a household outlet---it will only work with readily-available (and much lower cost) "C" cell batteries. Mission workers are often required to work in areas that do not have a reliable source of electricity (preventing them from using an electrical outlet to recharge their rechargeable batteries) so the "C" cell batteries work best for them. Medical/nursing students are constantly seeking ways to lower their educational costs (student debt is currently at historically high levels).
