As an additional courtesy to the buyer, we have preconditioned the new Welch Allyn #72300 battery (dated 2017) to ensure long-term performance of the handle. List price on this set is over $870. Price of this item on Amazon is $721 (when shipping is included). This handle can be upgraded to use standard "C" batteries with the purchase of an adapter ring #710168-501 for about $20 extra. Preconditioning consists of the following: 1) We charge the battery for 16 hours and then totally discharge the battery (discharge takes over an hour), 2) We charge the battery a second time for 16 hours and totally discharge the battery again, and finally 3) We charge the battery for 16 hours a third time and then insert the battery into the handle for future use. Preconditioning enables the user to obtain the maximum charge life from a nickel-cadmium battery.
