This small preamp module was made for Ball Aerospace, and is amazing! It uses the RFMD pHEMT device type SPF-5122Z in a two stage design, with the second stage being a balanced type. The whole assembly runs off 5 VDC at about ~225 mA. I have modified a number of these for my use by adding connectors and have found very impressive results! These amps work from 144 MHz to 3456 MHz. I have had these measured at various conferences and people have been surprized by how well they work. The gain ranges from 40 dB at 144 Mhz to 15 dB at 3456 MHz, over the range up to 1421 MHz the noise figure is <= 1 dB. These amps are capable of 100 mW (+20 dBm) output. The first stage is biased for noise performance and the second stage is biased for gain and power.  I have cut these amps apart with tin snips and made single stage amps from them, easy!  The main thing is adding connectors and a power wire, which I wrote a paper to show you how to do and will email the PDF to the purchaser. It will also be in an upcoming proceedings of the SVHF Society for 2015 (hto be held at Morehead KY in April of 2015).  You can buy the chip for under 5.00 from DigiKey, but it is a bugger to mount!!! All the mounting, dc blocks, biasing, etc is done for you!! Makes this simple to use!  And the results will blow you away!  They are my go-to all purpose preamp for 432 MHz where the NF is about.5-.6 dB, nice for broadband amp!  I cut mine to a rectangular outline as this is easy to use. It has a small, snap-lid type RFI shielded PCB box with covers the unit and is easy to remove. This is a great preamp for radio astronomy and othe uses.   This table shows typical performance of one of the amps.
