This is a very special grinder. It belonged to Roderick "Caribou" Chappel, arguably one of the best American Knifemakers from the Golden Age of American Knifemaking. I purchased this grinder/ sander from his apprentice Dan Lombardo last year and due to some unexpected circumstances had to move over the summer. I went from a 2,000+ sqft shop to a 1 car garage and no longer have the space for two grinders.  It is equipped with an 8 inch serrated grinding wheel and uses 4" x 60" grinding belts. A flat platen is also included (but is missing the small wheels). It has a 3 Horsepower 3 Phase direct drive motor, it was built for work. I believe Rod had the custom 10" drive wheel made to replace the original spoked wheel.   I was planning on making some swords and bowies with it, as the 4" width is better for large blades than a regular 2" grinder, but I just don't have the space anymore.  It is a special piece of American knifemaking history and it is ready to be put back to work.  Prefer local pick up as it is heavy, but will arrange for freight if you pay for it.
