Zeiss Model W Microscope Optovar Phase Cuban Mahogany Cabinet Camera We offer for bid a used, clean, Zeiss Model W Microscope. It comes with the following components: the binocular head, the monocular photo, or, projection tube, a pair of K8x eyepieces, a Pl 2.5x 0.08 n.a., a Ph 16x 0.32 n.a., a 40x 0.63 n.a. and a Pl 40x 0.63 n.a. objective, the phase condenser made specifically for this instrument, the lamp, camera system with "23" Graphic roll film back and "T" tube viewing port and, of course, the Optovar in the older sequence - 1.0, 1.6, 2.5, phase. The Telan lens system is perfect. It is sans transformer and bulb, both of which come up on eBay. The fine adjustment, being too free, needs a washer replaced. In the drawer are a set of filters, the unused stage clips and two unused stage plates: the flat glass and the petri dish holder, This is one of the earlier attempts at a "modular" microscope. The stage is held in place by a single screw adjustable tooth. This makes it easy to rotate the stage and lock it in the desired position - a nice feature for photomicrography. The condenser is mounted with a quarter twist of the hand. Not having a rack and pinion for the condenser, the focusing is accomplished by means of a lever acting on the lens assembly which is focused much like a camera lens. The binocular head is unique to this model. The IPD is adjustable from one side by rotation of the eyepiece mount, the head itself pivots to properly present the eyepieces to the user. The lamp is on a plate with an internal sliding curved surface allowing the illuminator to be aligned to the condenser. The Cabinet, as near as we can tell from the red tone of the wood, is Cuban Mahogany. Yes, there are blemishes, but the wood is gorgeous. It was used even in those places where one would normally use a less expensive stock. This is a perfectly usable, beautiful collector's item.
