The Ziemer FEMTO LDV Femtosecond Laser addresses the demand of refractive surgeons for an “all-Laser LASIK” capability that is consistent with an efficient LASIK work-flow. The solution by Ziemer is based on an all-new Femtolaser design concept that seamlessly integrates into LASIK procedures and corneal surgery. Product Overview Due to the Ziemer FEMTO LDV Femtosecond Laser’s unique hand-held laser delivery system, which is attached to an easily maneuverable articulated arm, patients can be treated on the patient bed of the Excimer Laser and do not have to be relocated between flap creation and ablation procedures. The surgeon can perform and control the entire procedure from a single working position, without having to move about or changing microscopes. This revolutionary design concept of the Ziemer FEMTO LDV entails several major advantages in clinical practice. As the Ziemer FEMTO LDV’s laser energy is deployed from a hand-piece, which is placed on the patient’s eye and manually controlled by the surgeon, a procedure results that resembles the operation of a traditional microkeratome. The sterile single-use parts of the hand-piece, which are provided in convenient, assorted ProcedurePacks, are assembled before the procedure is started and before the patient’s eye is touched. Similarly, the components are disassembled after the complete (usually bilateral) procedure is completed. For fixation, the hand-piece on the Ziemer FEMTO LDV incorporates a vacuum suction ring, which is available for a range of flap diameters from 8.5 to 10 mm. The ring is mounted over the applanation window on the underside of the hand piece. Positioning, applanation, and suction are controlled visually through the hand piece observation window and the Ziemer FEMTO LDV Excimer Laser’s microscope. As a recent addition, the Ziemer FEMTO LDV hand-piece now incorporates the TopView Camera; a real-time color video imaging system that delivers a close-up view of the applanated eye of the patient. With the incorporated image processing software on the Ziemer FEMTO LDV , the color video image is optimized to furnish a crisp view of the eye, allowing the surgeon to center the resection pattern with micrometer precision. This capability is available for both LASIK and LCS (Lamellar Corneal Surgery) applications. The optional LCS module extends the range of applications for the Ziemer FEMTO LDV beyond LASIK flap-making. The Ziemer FEMTO LDV Femtosecond Laser now includes advanced methods such as tunnel incisions for intra-corneal rings, pockets for intra-stromal inlays, and deep resections for lamellar keratoplasty.
